ANTONOV
 An-140

An-140
Faced with the need for a rejuvenation of the commuter market within the CIS, the Antonov Design Bureau developed the Antonov 140 commuter airliner. It is directly aiming at replacing its predecessor that came from the same cradle, the Antonov 24.
Despite the fact that the Antonov 140 has had its first flight almost a decade after it’s competitor, the Ilyushin Il-114, the launch of the latest Antonov airliner has been much more successful. Contrary to the Il-114 whose reputation still suffers from early engine problems resulting in the loss of one of the prototypes, the An-140 quickly managed to attract several CIS customers, among them also Aeroflot Russian International Airlines.
Furthermore, a contract signed with the Islamic Republic of Iran calls for the production under license of up to 100 Antonov 140 for the Iranian domestic market.
Backed by these important commitments, the An-140 seems set well on course to maintain the predominant role of Antonov products in the CIS commuter market.
